Tinashe surprises fans on Thursday night with the release of a brand new body of work and the announcement of her upcoming second album coming at the top of 2017. ‘Nightride’ is a new 15-track mixtape that serves as the first act in a two-part project that follows into her long-awaited sophomore effort, ‘Joyride’.
‘Joyride’ was originally slated for a Spring 2016 release; however, Tinashe delayed the album and cancelled touring at the time to devote full attention to it’s completion. It appears that the RCA recording artist has crafted a new campaign leading up to the 2017 release as she drops a mixtape-esque prequel project to prepare fans for the main course.
‘Nightride’ contains recently released songs “Company” and “Superlove”, both originally announced to be apart of Tinashe’s sophomore effort. Nightride follows up Tinashe’s debut 2014 full-length studio debut Aquarius.
Tinashe recently sat down with Rolling Stones to discuss the new project and had this to say about the two-part arrangement.
“I see [Nightride and Joyride] as two things that are equally the same. I think you can be a combination of things, and that’s what makes people human and complex. They are equally me. I don’t like to be limited to one particular thing so I want to represent that duality and that sense of boundlessness in my art.”
In support of the new project, Tinashe releases a 6-minute abstract visual presentation directed by Stephen Garrnett. The trailer shows the singer as a little girl singing in the garden, her transition into the pop star she is today. The video reveals the multi-layers of the “2 On” songstress and what fans can expect from ‘Nightride’ sonically.
